Sessions & Workshops

Peer to Peer Training

Kate Robson* will lead us through an interactive workshop, in which she will train our group on peer-to-peer support, and how to implement specific supportive techniques when working with multiple births mothers and fathers in your own chapters. This workshop will involve conversation about many issues multiple births families may face, such as prematurity, loss or postpartum depression, and how to approach conversations with families if they reach out for support. You will leave this workshop feeling better equipped to handle delicate conversations and with increased confidence in your ability to provide peer-to-peer support.

*Kate Robson is a mother of two girls, and a NICU Family Support Specialist, offering support to families and helping the unit deliver family centred care. She is an expert in peer support and her background in Adult Education and Community Mediation, when combined with her personal experiences, helps her bring families and staff together as collaborators. She is currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Premature Babies Foundation, and was co-chair of the Canadian Family Advisory Network. She has had the opportunity to present at conferences such as the Canadian Association of Neonatal Nurses Annual Conference, the Gravens Conference on the Physical and Developmental Environment of the High Risk Infant, the Institute for Patient and Family Centered Care International Congress, and the Annual Conference of the Australian College of Neonatal Nurses.

In order to provide the workshop schedule to meet the needs of the delegates, you will be asked to rank the following workshops as to your interest. We will then set the schedule. You will be able to attend three workshops.

Events and Fundraising - Share best practices for holding chapter events for mom, dad, kids and families. What works, what doesn't and how to get people to attend. Also, tips for fundraising. Bring your best ideas to the table. Your facilitators will have ideas from other chapters and organizations to share with you as well.

Prenatal Classes - Bring your favourite tips and tricks for running a prenatal class for expectant parents of multiples. Come share your ideas about where you advertise your event, where you prefer to hold your classes, and tell us what type of content is received well during your classes. Hear about some of the best places to find accurate multiple births content to share during your classes and in follow up with your multiple births families.

Board Governance (including Finances) - Come and learn ways to improve the running of your Chapter. We will discuss the importance of Board Governance including best practices in running meetings, minute-taking, executive positions (job descriptions), elections and voting. This session will touch on goal setting to help plan your chapter's year and to move it forward into the future. Included in this dynamic workshop will be what your chapter needs to know about financial record keeping.

Managing your Membership - Bring your thoughts and ideas for this open discussion on how to maintain your membership and keep your members engaged. Topics could include (but are not limited to): building a community and connection through social media, strategies for managing members separated by geography, online membership renewal options (how to make it as easy as possible for them to join and renew), engaging members with older children and fostering connections amongst new parents.

Volunteer Management/Succession Planning - Let's brainstorm together - volunteers: how to get them, how to train them and how to let them go! We will discuss ways to get new members included in running your chapter and how to plan for the future when the time comes for those "SUPER" volunteers to move on.

Consignment/Clothing Sales - Are you curious about how other clubs run their consignment sales? Looking to get ideas on increasing the number of shoppers through your doors, cutting down on your expenses, attracting more sellers, handling donations or computerizing your tagging system and point of sale? Come and join the discussion on these topics and more.
